Erica Banks Criticized For Twerking In Front Of High School Students At A Pep Rally

On Friday (Aug. 19), the internet was flooded with a video of Canadian American rapper Erica Banks twerking in front of students (primarily boys) at Frederick Douglass High School’s pep rally.

Indeed, the performance seemed to have captured the attention of the underage boys. Due to their overly enthusiastic reactions, one of the coaches at Frederick Douglass High was forced to intervene on behalf of the football players and prevent them from becoming too engrossed in the dance. As hormones are usually responsible for boys’ elation over sexual acts, it is not surprising that they reacted this way.

Social Media Users Commented On Erica Banks’ Performance
As a result of watching the video, many Twitter users expressed their dissatisfaction with it.

So ppl wanna give Erica Banks a pass for twerking on a group of high school boys but now y’all just being inconsistent by saying those kids are “more grown than actual adults” 🙄. This just tells me that people lack character and principles

The “Toot That” rapper then took to Instagram to respond to the criticism made against her. Banks responded to The Neighborhood Talk’s post, which included several complaints regarding her performance.

“Girl didn’t nobody touch them kids, clearly,”

Banks replied to one user. “We had a great time, good day.”
While Erica was criticized, many people were quick to defend her. They insisted that her performance was not as offensive as it may appear since she was not gyrating her butt on top of a student.

“They had fun…she got paid…nobody was touched…lighten up,” a tweet read along with several women shrugging their shoulders emojis.

Expose Minors To Age-Appropriate Activities

Everyone has the right to hold an opinion; however, this behavior can never be tolerated. It is not appropriate for minors to be exposed to activities that are deemed inappropriate for them. A different story would unfold if they were over the age of 18.

Many adults do not consider that children should remain in a child’s position and be exposed to things that are suited for them. In the reverse scenario, if a man performed a sexual act on an underage girl, there would be an outcry. It is equally important for men and women to be accountable.
Is It A Big Deal?
However insignificant this act may appear to some, it is crucial to remember that others easily influence children. There was more to Erica’s performance than a simple dance. In front of high school boys, she literally bent over and shook her bottom as if she were in a strip club.

The lack of proper teaching will result in a child believing that what they are exposed to is normal and acceptable behavior. For the next generation of children to have a better outcome, adults must break this vicious cycle. There is nothing wrong with enjoying yourself, but one should consider those included and determine whether their age is appropriate for such activities.
